Seems like Mr. Trump is simply copying the Omaha Steaks marketing and distribution model.

I'm not so sure the exclusive distribution channel through The Sharper Image was all that smart.

The recent skit on Conan OBrien which mentioned Trump Steaks was hialrious. I think you can find it on YouTube.

I just found this tribe, and it got me excited, so I wanted to give it a little action. I see this tribe as an opportunity to exchange methods and ideas, especially the type that makes us drool.

So people, what's your preferred ultimate way to do steak at home?

Here's is mine and my fiance's. We've done this so many times during our Oregon summers, driving our neighbors crazy:

1. Beef: inch-thick rib-eye or ny strip, ideally local grass-fed beef, but Safeway's Rancher's Reserve will do.
2. Marinade steaks in combination worstishire and Hitching Post's blend of seasoning for 45-mins to 1 hour.
3. Fire: Mesquite coals with added wet mesquite chips. Medium-high flame. Never leave bbq when grilling.
4. Searing phase: keep top open, 3 minutes on each side.
5. Smoking phase: put lid on, smoke the shit out of it for another 1-2 minutes.

This results is an extremely juicy and flavorful steak. Lately, we've swapped out the Hitching Post blend with a texas-style rub, and lighter on the worstishire. We can go much longer with this marinade before grilling. I'm sure there's more ultimate meat sources, but these are what we can afford on a regular basis.

6. Side: perhaps this is another thread, but we love streamed or grilled artichokes, with mayo/seasoning dip.
7. Wine: Perhaps another thread too, but a classic Willamette Valley Oregon Pinot, or Napa/Sonoma bordeaux, or Santa Barbara Co. Syrah or Pinot. Paso Robles Zinfandel is too overpowering, but it's good to follow-up with it.

Some reflections of our best steak experiences between our lives in Santa Barbara and now Oregon, over the last four years (since 2002):

* Hitching Post in Buellton, CA (legendary, inspired our home steak bbqs for years with Frank Ostini's seasoning recipe)

* Scarlet Begonia's in Portland, OR (bacon-wrapped filet stuffed with blue-cheese, no longer exists)

* The Ringside in Portland, OR (served in a iron skillet with a pat of butter, classy old-school service)

* Bliss Steak Ranch in Eugene, OR (totally straight-up old-school, used their seasoning for a summer, no longer exists)

* BBQ steaks at home in summer, marinated in Hitching Post seasoning and worstishire (Sear the outside, 6-7 minutes monitored, tops. Drive our neighbors crazy. We now do a texas rub sometimes instead of the marinade.) (see pics from chris)

* Boboquivari's in San Fransico, CA (people fly to SF to eat here, almost 2 inches thick)

Eat a cow, eat a cow it's the thing that goes "Mooooo"

Look at all the cows in the slaughterhouse yeard
Gotta hit'em in the head, gotta hit'em real hard
First you gotta clean'em then the butcher cuts'em up
Throws it on a scale throws an eyeball in a cup

Saw a big Brangus Steer standing right over there
So I rustled up a fire cooked him medium rare
Bar-B-Q'ed his brisket, a roasted his rump
Fed my dog that ol' Brangus Steer's hump

Eat steak, eat steak eat a big ol' steer
Eat steak, eat steak do we have one dear?
Eat beef, eat beef it's a mighty good food
It's a grade A meal when I'm in the mood.
